Tricky Gluten Words

Do you have a friend or family member who has a gluten-free lifestyle? I have put together a list to help you become more aware of the foods that have gluten, so you can have a gluten-free meal for them, without having contamination. Please check out Recipes GF/V for ideas about gluten-free recipes. It is probably best to show your gluten-free friend all the recipes you used just in case before she eats the meal.

A list of gluten containing foods (1):

*Barley, cousous, kamut, spelt, edible starch, semolina, triticale, bran, farina, tabouleh, malt, oats, rye, wheat
*Food starch
*Vegetable gum
*Vegetable Starch
*Wheat bran
*Wheat germ
*Wheat starch

Foods that contain Gluten

*Some alcohol beverages (wine coolers, beer, whiskey, check with manufacture to be sure)
*Ginger ale, creme soda, root beer, malt beverages
*Chocolate milk, instant cocoa, milkshakes
*Any breads that aren't labled "gluten-free"
*Commercially prepared desserts: pie fillings, pastries, sherbet, and puddings
*Salad dressings made with gluten stablizers
*Gravies & sauces
*Processed cheese spreads
*Eggs prepared with wheat flour in souffles, fondue, crepes
*Dumplings, noodles unless made without gluten products
*Soups made from bouillon cubes/powders, canned soup
*Soups thickened with wheat flour or noodles in the soup
*Commercial candies containing cereal products or chocolate syrup containing grains/flours
*Ketchup, horseradish, mustard, white distilled vinegar, soy sauce, gravy mixes (check with manufacture to be safe)
*Chewing gum and crunchy snack foods
