Orange Tree

In the Garden of Eden:

"And God said, 'I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the earth, and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.'" ~Genesis 1:29 NIV

Why Vegan?

There are many reasons to start eating vegan. Here are some things to consider about the Standard American Diet:

1. Fiber-less/dead food- After cooking the animal product it is difficult for the body to digest because it lacks living enzymes. And without fiber it gets stuck in the lengthy digestive tract only to putrefy at our body temperature of 98.6 degrees, causing constipation, body odor, and lots of digestive and colon problems. (1)

2. Highly Acidic- Our bodies are designed to be alkaline. Disease survives in an acid environment but has great difficulty surviving in an alkaline environment. Plant foods are alkaline. (2)

3. Loaded with Fat- The average person on the SAD (Standard American Diet) puts their body through 100 pounds of animal fat each year! Fat clogs the arteries/veins and hinders the free flow of blood through the system. Fat is the primary cause of cardiovascular problems such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol as well as the primary cause of Type 2 Diabetes. These problems normalize once adopting a plant-based diet. (3)

4. Too High in Protein- This becomes high octane fuel for the growth of cancers and causes many other physical breakdowns. Our bodies do need some protein, but not the high amounts found in flesh and dairy products. We can get all the protein needed in a plant-based diet. (4)

5. Helps Protect against most Disease and Illness- Animal source foods are the cause of or the contributing cause of the following: heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, numerous cancers, diabetes, arthritis, sinus problems, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's Disease, acid stomach problems, gout, constipation, bad breath, congestion, indigestion, phlegm, PMS, menopausal problems, Crohn's Disease, Colitis, colon cancer and more. (5)

6. Avoid Food-borne Illness- "According to the U.S. government statistics, E-coli is present in about half of all cattle, which is ten times higher than previously thought. Campylobacter infects more than 70% of chickens and 90% of turkeys, and between 20-80% of all chickens are infected with salmonella." (6)

7. Normal Weight- "The state of the World Report declared that the number of underfed people world-wide is 1.2 billion, which is also equal to the number of overweight people world-wide. Also, if the trends continue, it is believed that by 2025, 75% of the population of North America will be overweight." (7)

8. Live Longer- "On average, vegans and vegetarians live 6 -10 years longer than meat eaters. That is primarily due to the many health benefits of eating a plant-based diet." (8)

9. Eliminate Body Odor- Eating meat and animal products takes a long time to go through the digestive system, which then causes putrefaction and those odors leave through the skin as well as the bowels. (9)

10. Weight Loss- A healthy weight loss is a typical result of a smart vegan diet. Eating vegan eliminates the unhealthy foods that tend to cause weight issues. (10)

11. Increase in Energy (11)

12. Healthy Skin, Hair, & Nails- The nuts and vitamin A & E from vegetables play a big role in healthy skin, so vegans usually have good skin. Many people notice a remarkable reduction in acne and blemishes. Nail health is also said to be an indicator of overall health. (12)

13. Decrease PMS- Symptoms become much less intense or disappear altogether. The elimination of dairy is thought to help with those suffering from PMS. (13)

14. Decrease in Allergies- Reduction in meat, dairy, eggs is often tied to alleviation of allergy symptoms. Many vegans report fewer runny noses and congestion problems. (14)

15. Avoidance of Hormones & Antibiotics- Animals are often injected with hormones to speed up their growth and produce more meat. Then they are given antibiotics to keep them alive until it's time to slaughter. (15)

16. Global Food Supply- Feeding grain to animals reduces the amount of grains we can feed to humans in underdeveloped countries. (16)

17. Environment- Growing plants takes much fewer resources than growing animals. And composting helps to reduce the amount of garbage in our landfills. (17)

18. Boycott Animal Cruelty- The conditions and environment of the animals here in the U.S. are very inhumane. Most animals aren't allowed to see daylight and are forced into small living spaces. It is a very sad situation; by eating vegan you are boycotting this injustice. (18)
